According to nutritionist Melliana Eka, S.Tr.Gz, a mother's health and nutritional status before and during pregnancy play a crucial role in determining a child's growth and development, as well as the long-term health of both mother and baby. "Many pregnant women in Indonesia still rely primarily on carbohydrate-rich foods as their daily staple, resulting in an inadequate and unbalanced intake of essential nutrients such as protein, vitamins, and minerals," she explained. Therefore, education on balanced nutrition is essential to help expectant mothers understand the importance of meeting their complete nutritional requirements throughout pregnancy, as an investment in raising a healthier, smarter, and more productive future generation.
The program aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of proper nutrition during pregnancy while promoting a healthy lifestyle through safe physical activity. Adequate health andd nutrition plays a vital role in supporting fetal growth and development, maintaining maternal health, and reducing the risk of pregnancy-related complications.
In addition to receiving educational sessions on maternal nutritional needs, healthy eating habits and overall pregnancy health, participants also joined a prenatal exercise and Pilates session led by a professional instructor. The exercise specifically designed to improve physical fitness, enhance posture, relieve common pregnancy discomforts, and help mothers prepare for childbirth.

"I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to join this program. I would like to thank PTTEP Indonesia and Dompet Dhuafa for organizing such a meaningful initiative for expectant mothers. Through the maternal nutrition education and pregnancy exercise sessions, I gained valuable knowledge about the importance of maintaining a balanced nutritional intake during pregnancy. I hope the knowledge I have gained will help me maintain my health and my baby's well-being until a safe and smooth delivery. I also hope that PTTEP Indonesia and Dompet Dhuafa will continue to grow and provide more beneficial programs for the community," she said.
