DPR RI and Government of NTT Collaborate with Private Company to Build Clean Water Facilities

02 Dec 2021

The long wait for the people of Ria-1 Village, Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, to get clean water facilities ended very well. After various challenges, the construction of a clean water facility in the village was finally completed. The well was inaugurated by a member of the DPR-RI from East Nusa Tenggara, Julie Sutrisno Laiskodat and the Regional Government of Ngada Regency.

“PTTEP has built water wells for us, by finding springs to improve our welfare. Please take good care. Thank you for helping us, water is one of the problems in NTT”. Julie Laiskodat said, Friday (11/26/21).

The well construction was initiated by Julie Laiskodat collaborating with the national oil company from Thailand, PTTEP which operates in Indonesia. The Regent of Ngada Regency, Andreas Paru, SH, MH., Chairman of the DPRD of Ngada Regency Bernadinus Dhey Ngebu, and local district and village government officials were also present at the inauguration. The inauguration ceremony was formally executed by signing the Clean Water Well Inscription.

General Manager of PTTEP Indonesia, Grinchai Hattagam, is grateful that the well construction was successful after eight months. PTTEP Indonesia hopes that this clean water well facility will increase the enthusiasm in improving the quality of life. Have an impact on improving the quality of the environment and public health, saving time from the difficult effort to obtain clean water and good sanitation.

“PTTEP Indonesia is pleased to be able to contribute to the construction of facilities in NTT. Hopefully this clean water well can improve the quality of life of the community, increase economic movement in this village and hopefully this well will continue to be part of the source of life for the villagers,” said Grinchai.

The use of clean water for the people of Ria-1 Village is important in the development of Indonesian people. Therefore, as a company that puts forward the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs, PTTEP Indonesia welcomes the collaboration in building a village that has clean water and sanitation for the community. Clean water is also important for economic progress, including for villagers who focus on agriculture and farming. This contribution is also part of corporate social responsibility to pay attention to the community.

Clean water and sanitation are classic problems in East Nusa Tenggara. Therefore, Julie Sustrisno Laiskodat, who is a member of the DPR from East Nusa Tenggara, initiated the construction of water wells in Ngada Regency.

At the time of determining the point for drilling the well, members of the Ngada Regency DPRD, village authorities, and government officials were present as witnesses. Meanwhile, the drilling process was mutually agreed upon by the village authorities, traditional leaders and community.

The process of constructing a well was also quite complicated, because based on a geoelectric survey to determine the location of the depth of clean water on the ground, it was visible that it would not be possible to easily obtain a water source. During the well drilling process, challenges arise including the land formation located at the drilling site is covered with hard and thick rock. Extreme weather that often occurs such as heavy rains and storms, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, was also a factor in the process of making drilling work difficult.

PTTEP Indonesia, Julie Laiskodat, along with the East Nusa Tenggara Government and the Ngada Regency Government hope that this well can yield results in the form of increasing community productivity.
